Ministry description:
Field: Ankaase, Ghana
Home State: Indiana
Children: Caylor
Dr. Cameron and Anne Gongwer serve in Ghana, West Africa with The Mission Society and the Methodist Church of Ghana. The Gongwers and their daughter, Caylor, began their missionary career in Ghana in March 1998 after Dr. Gongwer completed almost five years of private practice in South Bend, Indiana.
Their call to ministry is centered in the small farming town of Ankaase in the Ashanti Region where the Methodist Faith Healing Hospital is located. Cameron served as the first full time doctor and Medical Superintendent of the Ankaase hospital as it grew from a health center to become a district level hospital. Now the hospital is lead by a Ghanaian management team. Cameron has also become involved in training Ghanaian doctors in the specialty of Family Medicine, planting churches with Ghanaian Christians through medical evangelism outreaches, and assisting the Methodist Church Ghana in other medical ministry endeavors among the poor.
Anne has coordinated the development of the Ankaase Literacy Program which resulted in Ghanaian volunteers teaching over 80 people how to read the Bible in their mother tongue language. Now the program has focused on the building of The Reading Town library in the Ankaase community for the education of future generations of Ghanaian children. While home schooling Caylor, Anne has been instrumental in hosting the many volunteers that have come to serve in various ministry projects in Ankaase over the years. Together the Gongwers continue to reach out to the people of Ghana to make life whole in the name of Jesus Christ.
