Russian Far East

Amid the largest country in the world exist millions of people who deal with harsh circumstances and live in a nation that has undergone extreme transformation in the past few decades. With the transition to a free-market economy, soaring inflation and a weakened financial system, many Russians have fallen below the poverty level. Alcoholism and the number of orphans have risen; many Russians feel without hope. Russian education officials began requesting that Christian morals and ethics be taught in the public schools. In the early 1990s, the Mission Society together with CoMission responded to their plea. Missionaries now reside in Khabarovsk, Russia, and minister in a variety of roles. Humanitarian aid (particularly for children), relationship building, teaching Christian ethics and Bible studies, leadership development, planting cell-churches and work in orphanages has served as the foundation for most of the evangelistic outreach activities.
