Hungary

Situated in the middle of Central Europe, this thousand-year old statehood is rich with history and tradition that have stood the test of time. Having survived the devastation brought by the Tartars, Turks, Habsburgs and Russians, the Hungarian people are said to be a “people torn by fate.” Yet, despite their tumultuous history, they have thrived and continue to embrace and celebrate their traditions and culture while still remaining open to new advances. Over ten million Hungarians live in this country that is slightly smaller than the state of Indiana, and most of them are active in the Roman Catholic Church. Missionaries Dave and Beth Greenawalt have ministered in Hungary since 1993. Currently, they work alongside the Hungarian national church in the area of church-planting and evangelism, using cell church strategies. They utilize both English teaching and natural horsemanship activities in their outreach, using camps and through-the-year programs.
